About the Artist

Born in France during World War II, Roger became an American citizen at the age of 10 and was raised in San Francisco. He is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and worked for thirty-five years in the field of Public Health.

As an artist, he is largely self-taught, but took drawing classes at San Francisco City College and architectural drawing at the University of California, Berkeley.

Roger’s mother was involved in the Surrealist movement in France. The influence of such artists as Yves Tangy, Giorgio de Chirico, and Salvador Dali is detectable in his work. He derives much of his inspiration from mythology and poetry, especially that of T.S. Eliot.

The artist’s recent work deals with the interaction of organic and inorganic environments, the chaos and cosmos of the universe. He plays with the effects of intersecting and overlapping patterns.

Roger has shown his work in several venues in the Bay Area and has had one-man shows at the University of California, San Francisco and the Hewitt Gallery, LaJolla. as well as two one-man shows at the Variety Screening Room, San Francisco. He has also exhibited at the Cohen-Reese Gallery, San Francisco and recently, had a work accepted to a juried show at the San Francisco Women Artist’s Gallery, San Francisco.

An art critic of the San Diego Times once described Roger’s work as “highly detailed, optically illusive, dramatic and rendered with clever skill and imagination.”
